Another Lazy Day

Yesterday---Thanksgiving---was bitter cold, though Wednesday's snow was gone. Still even today I can feel the coldness seeping through the glass despite the storm windows; the heat is on, but really low. I guess I've got to put on more clothes. I have no desire to move in weather like this. So it's going to be one quiet day . . . how nice . . . (sigh) . . . right here in front of the computer with cup of hot tea!

But really . . . I've got some reading and writing to do---forget the housework (there's alway tomorrow, right?).

Today an earthquake centered in the ocean 330 miles east of Tokyo, causing tsunami warnings. The quake measured 7.2 and hit at around 6:30 a.m. Japan time. A tsunami did reach coastal towns on Japan’s east side but wasn't large. Most likely it didn't do much damage.

We hope all our precious friends there are safe!

Good Friends and Fellow Artists!
Posted by Picasa

This photo was taken by our wiatress at the Celtic Knot, in Evanston. But it was Rachel's camera (she's the one on the far right with the sage-like grin!) See the rest of Rachel's Chicago trip pics at http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/the_poo/album?.dir=/d1b9&.src=ph&.tok=pheJs6DBjpozTUqF

My Mythological Form

I learned of this quiz from Michelle's blog. A fun spot!

pho
You are Form 0, Phoenix: The Eternal.
"And The Phoenix's cycle had reached
zenith, so he consumed himself in fire. He
emerged from his own ashes, to be forever
immortal."

Some examples of the Phoenix Form are Quetzalcoatl
(Aztec), Shiva (Indian), and Ra-Atum
(Egyptian). The Phoenix is associated with the concept of life,
the number 0, and the element of fire. His sign is the eclipsed sun.
As a member of Form 0, you are a determined
individual. You tend to keep your sense of
optomism, even through tough times and have a
positive outlook on most situations. You have
a way of looking at going through life as a
journey that you can constantly learn from.
Phoenixes are the best friends to have because
they cheer people up easily.

Which Mythological Form Are You?

Give it a try! Which one of the nine mythological forms do you take?

Allowing for Religious Holidays

This school year our school district not only gave the students Yom Kippur (as is usual) but also Rosh Hashanah off. Isn't it possible then to recognize one day each year for each of the major religions represented in the district? As it is our district gives two weeks for Christmas/New Year's and also Good Friday. Isn't this the Nation that boasts religious freedom? We can teach our children the meaning of religious tolerance by allowing other faiths the same "air time", so to speak. It's not at all difficult to accommodate if only we try.

Winter has come!

Winter has come! Last week was so beautiful---mild weather, sunny days, temperatures in the high 60s with no noticeable humidity. But since yesterday the sky has been gray, making the leafless tree branches look stark. And last night lightening lit up the darkness. Happily (for me) there was more lightening than thunder.
More of the same for today. Yes, I think winter is upon us in Chicagoland.

Daylight Savings Time

We've been back from Japan for 6 years now and I still haven't adjusted to Daylight Savings Time. Some one will have to explain to me the advantages of it, because as far as I'm concerned it's unnatural. Yes, I know that with it, kids don't have to go to school in the dark. But it seems to me that so many kids are taken to school by their moms anyway, that that argument is irrelevant. Japanese kids go to school in the dark. Granted, the Japanese have a less troubled society than we have. Hmmm...

Where Does the Time Go?

There's so much I want and need to get done. I'm mourning the absence of reflection in my life these days. How can one be creative without it?

But where would we humans be without a time reference? It's a pity that we have to bother with eating and sleeping!

A Remarkable Day

Today in my private journal I wrote that I wished I knew what I could do for the Faith using my limited gifts and skills. When I got home there was a letter from the Local Spiritual Assembly asking me to consider helping the newsletter editor! I don't know exactly what my work would entail yet...but just the synchronicity of the situation was enough to bowl me over.

I only wish now I knew how to upload photos to this blog!!! I've followed the directions, but something is wrong---nothing shows up!
